Scrappy misuse(?)
- The Scrappy: This show's incarnation of Velma is not only the most hated incarnation of the character but also one of, if not the most hated character in the Scooby Doo franchise by being a self righteous, grating, hypocritical, petty, and cruel Designated Hero with no redeeming qualities.
While the characters is widely hated by Scooby-Doo fans, I believe this is misuse as Scrappy must be hated by fans of the specific work and is about consistently hated characters not hated versions of otherwise popular ones. (Hence the Titans of Teen Titans Go! not counting despite the show getting similar backlash.)
If this Velma was hated by those who otherwise liked the show, I'd say she counts. But while I've seen implications of such, the show is such a negativity sink I can't tell for sure and am leaning to "hated by non-fans of the work" misuse.
I asked Scrappy Cleanup but got nothing. Prior discussion on the matter was unclear given the version of characters grey area. The Scooby Doo thread was also unsure, not saying if her haters otherwise like the show and saying this was more a definitional question than popularity one.
Thoughts on the matter? Would Overshadowed by Controversy be a better fit as it's seemingly impossible to talk about anything other than the character as opposed to the shows other merits/flaws? Can anyone confirm or deny if she's hated by those who otherwise like the show?
Edited by Ferot_Dreadnaught"Technology Marches On" or a "Hindsight" trope?
(I tried to ask this on the forums but it got swallowed up with no response, inquiring here) Someone put on a Trivia page for a recent episode of Futurama a Technology Marches On entry that I'm not sure if it's totally correct.
For context, "Related To Items You've Viewed" prominently satirizes Amazon and voice-based virtual home assistant devices in specific, displaying "Momazon" and the virtual assistant device "Invasia" becoming so monolithic and powerful that they take over the universe. The Technology Marches On entry was highlighting how right now in 2023, the future of such devices is actually turning out pretty bleak — Amazon Echo/Alexa (the subject the episode is parodying) resulted in a $10 billion loss last year alone and its development team being massively downsized as Amazon considers it "a colossal failure of imagination", and this pattern is consistent among competitors like Google and Apple and their home assistants (the broad trend is that these devices have no means of long-term monetization on top of being designed as loss-leaders, and many attempts to extract a revenue flow from consumers using the product have failed).
I'm thinking; considering Production Lead Time is a thing (this current season was first greenlit in February 2022), does this count as Technology Marches On or a Hindsight trope? The current entry also writes "It's possible this may even turn into Zeerust.", and I'm not sure how much that fits. Thoughts?
Rocket Girls Cleanup/Refurbishment Thread Request Anime
The wiki's page for Anime.Rocket Girls has been in an odd state ever since its launch: Tropes are split into three categorization folders that were created shortly after page launch (a format no other page on this wiki follows as far as I've seen); there are a lot of zero or low-context examples, commented out and otherwise, and I feel some of the tropes cited may not line up with their wiki definitions. I've been compiling/rewriting trope examples from this series on an off-site Google Doc with the intention of bringing them over to the wiki for a while now, but I want to do so with approval from the mods for a planned drastic overhaul, and some feedback on revisions of certain tropes I'm not very certain about. Would it be appropriate to start a forum thread under Short-Term Projects focused on overhauling this page?
Indiana Jones Box Office Bomb Film
So I see people adding Box Office Bomb to Trivia.Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny when it technically hasn’t ended it’s box office run yet. According to Box Office Mojo, it’s still playing in 145 theaters in North America (not sure about foreign countries). What should be done with the entry?
Recently-launched trope page is full of ZCE
Devoted Fan Bonus Detail was launched yesterday. By my count, roughly half of the examples are ZCE of the "this work contains this trope" sort — usually a variety of "fans of the original/earlier entries of the series will enjoy the Mythology Gags within, while new watchers can enjoy this movie just fine" — and there are also two examples that seem to be straight up misuse.
Do I comment-out the ZCEs (and remove the misuse) as per normal procedure, or is this the sort of thing that means it needs to be de-launched?
Edit War
Edited by AmonimusContent Leak troping - "Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too!" Western Animation
Bringing this over from the Unreleased Work Page Cleanup Thread, as that's gone quiet.
Scooby-Doo! And Krypto, Too! is scheduled for release on September 26th. A trailer's been released, but the entire film has also, reportedly, been leaked.
The works page currently tropes the whole film and is clearly written by someone who either knows exactly what happens (via leak or inside information), or is inventing examples. The former seems more likely.
Most of these examples seem to have been added by Court Dogs, who originally created the page. None of the examples cite pre-release sources, so they're not in line with Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work.
Ariel Lightning has already commented out a bunch of tropes that clearly aren't from the trailer (ending tropes, "halfway through the movie" x happens etc.), only for Readerbug 819 to delete the markup and reinstate them all.
Unreleased notifier sent to CourtDogs, Ignored Comment notifier sent to Readerbug819.
At this point I'm inclined to comment out every example without a source - so probably all of them (with the usual stub/cutlist consequences if sources aren't added) - but for things that are clearly written from leaks (ending tropes etc.), should we just cut them entirely?
We can always add new versions once it's released but (a bit like the ban evader rules) it feels wrong to me to 'reward' this sort of content leak troping by letting those examples remain on the site as currently written.

Edited by Mrph1Can we recreate the The Doghouse Diaries page? Webcomic
It says that the The Doghouse Diaries page was reduced to a stub and thus cut after all zero context examples were commented out. If that's accurate, then why is there no edit history for the page? Is the history deleted when its page is cut?
And is it okay to recreate the page? It's the image source for at least 3 tropes, and has a decent number of links. It shouldn't be too hard to write a description, read some or all of the comic, and add descriptive examples of tropes therein (and yes, I am willing to do so).
Question about how search works
So, I was trying to see if the Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity and Mortality podcast had a work page and found it does not. What confuses me though is: when I search the wiki for "Mistholme", the Museum of the Strange and Unusual page comes up, appropriately enough as it's the premise of the podcast. So at first I thought maybe someone had put an example from the podcast on that page without creating a work page. Yet when I search the page (or even the page source—it's not just commented out), the word Mistholme does not actually appear on that page anywhere. I'm curious to know why a page is coming up in search for an uncommon word when that word doesn't appear on the page (even though it is a very appropriate page to come up in the search).
What to do with Crossovers?
So, for Magnificent Bastard thread here. What do we do with Crossovers like say Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Currently we have a crossover section on Comic Books page but should we include them on the pages for the franchises crossing over? What is site policy on this?
Edited by BullmanPage with no description
Oh Holy has no description, instead it just has a link to read the comic
Should LowTierLetdown/Minecraft be moved to Scrappy Weapon? Videogame
Minecraft was recently created, and it has a lot of entries on equipment and potions — that is, things that would typically fit better under Scrappy Weapon. Does this move seem justified? If so, what would be the process to move it?

Edited by gramarieTroping works made by family members
I know that Auto-Erotic Troping, troping your own works, is disliked, and YMMV for such is outright forbidden, but what about troping and adding YMMV for works made by family members? For example, making a work page for a now-discontinued webcomic my brother made. I probably can't reference anything he told me personally that he never wrote anywhere, but the comic itself should be fair game, right?
Edited by KingofNightmareshow do i add an image to a page? Videogame

Borked note markup
On Fanfic.Medicated, one of the notes in the first Entertainingly Wrong bullet doesn't work, but it wasn't always this way, and it looks normal when I copy it here:
- The Plantars try to study Anne's human form to discover what species she is. They correctly deduce that she's a mammal, but most of their other conclusions are just slightly off, though still based on logical evidence. Since she's warm-blooded, they think she's native to colder climatesnote Humans live all over the planet, but thrive in temperate climate, and are native to sub-saharan Africa. Anne herself is from southern California, that she's arboreal due to her natural climbing skillsnote Humans are not arboreal, but primates usually are, so it wasn't too far off, and that she's primarily a herbivore since she prefers fruits to insects.note Humans are omnivores that can survive on any diet, fruit is simply more easily digestible than insects
New tropes added to NREP crowner
The current No Recent Examples, Please! crowner has been updated with two more tropes:
- And You Thought It Would Fail (3 months after release): to avoid knee-jerk reactions and allow time to see how the work's received.
- Hoist by His Own Petard (20 years for RL examples): rule of cautious editing judgment for real life events. No NREP rule for fictional examples.
(Voting on Arc Villain, which was already on the Crowner, is still open as well)
If you're voting against either of these and want to share your reasons, please comment on the NREP thread. Edited by Mrph1
Loud House Season 7 Episode Pages
I see that the pages for some of the episodes of Season 7 of The Loud House haven't added tropes. What is taking so long to add the tropes to the pages?
Dr. Oddfellow
Is it too early to add Dr. Oddfellow the Halloween Horror Nights character page, since he's now revealed to be this year's icon?
