Describe Carls493 here.
Very well...
I been around TV Tropes for a while now, a long while. But I didn't make myself known until Mid-August 2009. This is a great wiki!
I'm mostly a big fan of Video Games, Anime, and Western Animation, along with the many Voice Actors, American, Japanese, and others, that go with them. I also like certain Films, Live-Action TV, Comic Books, and Web Comics.
Speaking of Video Games, I run a YouTube channel containing all sorts of different playthroughs of games I've enjoyed in my life, including the games for pages I've contributed to, below. I even created a few of my own songs inspired by different video game tracks I've enjoy, and they're all themed after the soundfont of the Sega Genesis, my very first video game console.
Check out my channel here, subscribe to me there if you like it, and check below for a Long List of what I have in it.
On June 1st, 2016, I realized that I haven't updated this page since November 2011. I finally decided to give this page a huge cleanup into what is it now.
Follow me on my Twitter page, too! But be warned, as I tend to share a bigger variety of things and thoughts, there.
My Favorite Contributions:
- Sonic the Hedgehog: Added and edited tropes.
- Sonic Generations: Added and edited tropes.
- WMG/Sonic Generations: Added one guess and multiple responses, throughout.
- YMMV/Sonic Generations: Edited tropes.
- Sonic Generations: Added and edited tropes.
- Azumanga Daioh: Adding and editing tropes, and just polishing the main page in general.
- YMMV/Azumanga Daioh: Created and moved associated appropriate tropes to.
- Trivia/AzumangaDaioh: Created this page, too.
- Characters/AzumangaDaioh: Adding tropes and polishing entries.
- Characters/Musashi Samurai Legend: I didn't create this, but I'm the biggest contributor to a lot of editing and adding. I'm also helping with some images to show off how Tetsuya Nomura's current designs in Kingdom Hearts spreads to other works. He did not disappoint me with these characters.
- Characters/Kirby: I picked up on what I've done with the above Character Sheet and added some character images for this one, too. Right now it was just for Meta Knight and King Dedede, but others have been added since.
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: Added more examples.
- Nintendo: Added tropes to which the page originally lacked entirely. In fact, as far as I know, I'm probably the one responsible for starting the idea of having tropes to describe Video Game Companies to begin with, including a page I made for one entirely out of scratch. See below under "Tropes and Works I Have Launched".
- Sega: See Nintendo.
- Capcom: See Sega.
- Konami: See Capcom.
- Square Enix: See Konami.
- 2½D: Added and edited examples.
- Most Triumphant Example: Several additions throughout the different sections.
- Motion Blur: Contributed to getting it properly advertised and added the first few examples.
- Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt: Added and edited tropes. It was once one of the Locked Pages due to the controversy it stirred up, but not anymore now that the hype died down and also possibly due to its namespace change.
- SpongeBob SquarePants: Added and edited tropes.
- YMMV/SpongeBob Square Pants: Created and moved its associated tropes to.
- Super Smash Bros.: Added and edited tropes.
- Characters/Super Smash Bros: Edited tropes.
- YMMV/Super Smash Bros: Edited tropes.
- Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Added and edited tropes.
- Characters/Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: Added and edited tropes.
- Dreamworks Face: Contributed to the trope image when it was just launched, which was fixed and revised by someone else, later on.
- Ice Climber: Added tropes and elaborations to a couple of them.
- Haiku/Bayonetta: Added the Precision F-Strike-laden haiku. Seriously, just don't.
- Mega Man Legends: Indirectly, because since Legends 3 is now cancelled, I made sure the word gets around on this, including but not limited to the Ruined FOREVER and Fallen Creator pages. Capcom was going through its own hell, back then, but now it seems to have lapsed.
- Laconic/Sega Genesis: Made the page.
- Phalanx: Added more info on the its Covers Always Lie entry, which I can interpret as my own Lampshade Hanging on the game's Japanese boxart design and how part of it links to its name. That line is gone now, however, probably for feeling shoehorned in.
- Spin Jam: Contributed quite a lot to this page.
- Team Buddies: Same as Spin Jam, but even more so than that game.
- Skullgirls: Added and edited some tropes.
- Senran Kagura: Added and edited some tropes, probably a bit more than the above for a while.
- Sonic.exe: Contributed to added info relating to its Sonic 1 Game Mod An Ordinary Sonic ROM Hack.
- Mario Teh Plumber: Contributed a lot to this page regarding Mariotehplumber's constant shaming of pretty much anything modern or female.
- The Loud House: I contributed to different parts of this show's existence on This Very Wiki, such as pampering up some of its Character pages and Episode Recaps, as well as adding some crucial information on its YMMV page. However, I have noticed for myself that I tend to highlight some of the grosser and borderline-lewder things that this show managed to get away with...
- Streets of Rage: Launched the first few links and descriptions of Streets of Rage 4's soundtrack on its Awesome Music page (namely one song per Japanese composer plus main composer Olivier Deriviere). Please go check them out, and anything else that gets added there!
- Infinity Train: Contributed to multiple pages on this show, such as its main, Trivia, Characters, and Nightmare Fuel pages.
Tropes and Works I Have Launched: *
- Oxygenated Underwater Bubbles: A trope that definitely should be able to exist, based on proof of its presence in different Video Games, especially the Sonic the Hedgehog games. I also created its Laconic page.
- Thats Not Very Nice: A scrapped trope for being one of the many Stock Phrases.
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land: Responsible for creating the page as Kirby Wii and renaming its title for This Very Wiki after it was revealed as Kirby Returns to Dream Land, then got a bit help in the third and most recent change by which it's actually "Kirby's Return to Dream Land''.
- Drinking Game/Mother 3: Started the page all from scratch. Quite cleverly, really. Go on, have some fun!
- Single Plural Title: Scrapped, as it can already be used as a One-Word Title.
- Sonic the Hedgehog Megamix: Created nearly all of its info for both its main page and its YMMV, out of respect of it being my favorite Sonic the Hedgehog Game Mod of all time.
- Fox Eye: Long story short, I take major responsibility of being the head contributor of all info and content related to this developer on This Very Wiki, with the intention of making a solid mini-database for what I consider my favorite set of the most obscure and niche games I've ever enjoyed and thus, my biggest video game Guilty Pleasures of all time. However, this is honestly a slow work-in-progress, as I have yet to play and beat all of the games, and even if I could attempt to do so, not all of them were even released in English, which makes this plan even harder for me to do unless there are other Tropers here that miraculously know about these games, as well. Nonetheless, I created this developer's main page, YMMV page, and Trivia page all from scratch. I've also made, or had a hefty contribution to, some of its games' own pages:
- Holdover: This game's page was made before I even knew what Fox Eye was. It was my discovery of this page from its entry in Oxygen Meter that eventually led me to create almost everything else regarding Fox Eye's material, here. Upon encountering Holdover's page and subsequently the game itself, I gave it a massive, much-needed update on things that weren't already covered by its inception. I also added its page image and a fun little caption based on my amusement of what its cute protagonist's possible inspiration behind her looks to go with it. I later on created its YMMV page and Heartwarming page, as well as contributing a lot to its Nightmare Fuel page, and I've even managed something for a Funny page.
- Aqua Cube: Completely made this one from scratch, as well as its page image and YMMV page.
- Sacrifice Girl: Just like with Holdover, I didn't make this page, first. Someone else did, and it was likely due to my initial call for help that I thought I needed working on the above game's pages. I have subsequently made all of its other sub-pages, including YMMV, Trivia, Awesome Moments, and Nightmare Fuel.
- Hades Vanquish: Same as Aqua Cube, including a YMMV page and a Heartwarming page. I also made the page image and caption.
- BLUE GUARDIAN: Margaret: Similar to Hades Vanquish, including its YMMV page but also a Nightmare Fuel page. Its main page is probably the biggest work page I've made from scratch, so far. As of this writing, its Related Pages section has actually managed to have OVER FOURTEEN THOUSAND people learning about this game just from its main page on here alone. No other Fox Eye-related page combined has gotten even close to that many hits. "...WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY ALL COMING?!". Holy crap, for an extremely niche Metroidvania, this is amazing to me, because it just shows how much attention I brought to the game.
- Natica and Sandy: Underwater Rescue and its YMMV page: The game was only a temporary download, but it came back through a Compilation Rerelease. I got into it enough that I decided to make a page for it along with a page image, too, long before the game was even out in English!
- Karin's Skin Diving Diary!: I made this and its YMMV page and Trivia page completely from scratch, as well, almost right after the English version was released. I really am on a roll with this circle, pretty much.
- NATICA STAR SPLASH: Created this page, its YMMV page, its Trivia page and its Nightmare Fuel page.
- At Night in a Party: The Whisper of the Sea: I made this page, as well as its YMMV and Trivia pages.
With all of the hard work I contributed to the pages of this Doujin Soft developer and some of its games, I consider all of my work on Fox Eye-related content on TV Tropes to possibly be my Magnum Opus of all of the contributions I made to both creator pages and work pages on This Very Wiki. I again emphasize that this developer as a whole represents my biggest Guilty Pleasures as a gamer, and after you find out why, you're probably gonna wanna ask me some things, because damn, even I'm still surprised about how much I put into these games' pages, of all things. They contrast so critically hard from my bigger favorites and just about everything in my following list, below, and I'm still a bit struck and nerved in the mind on how I got to learn of them to begin with...
- Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time: Kickstarted a true new page for the game (as well as its YMMV and Trivia pages) after the main page was initially cut due to a stubby lack of info at the time.

Tropes that describe my YouTube Channel:*
- Acclaimed Flop: Not to completely brag, but despite my massive amount of videos and subscribers and general praise for my YouTube Channel's content, a lot of commentors and even myself have noticed that this doesn't always translate well into the individual views I get for each video, with some fans even claiming that my channel is severely underrated. Part of me can believe this, because even with over 60 thousand subscribers, a majority of my modern videos will stuggle to get higher than 3-digit views, sometimes even 2-digit views. This doesn't apply to all of them, however, such as anytime I focus on Sonic the Hedgehog or what I covered in Colbert Bump below, though my style of presentation may be to blame (see Show, Don't Tell below).
- Added Alliterative Appeal: So far, all 4 of the Fox Eye games I've featured star girls whose names start with an "M": Marie, Miyo, Mana, and Margaret.
- Approval of God:
- Upon the start of my playthrough of the Game Mod Sonic 3: D. A. Garden Edition, I got acknowledged and blessed by the creator of the hack, D. A. Garden, himself.
- April Fools: Believe it or not, this is my birthday.
- In 2012, using Musashi Samurai Legend, I passed off a bonus alternative of that game's opening (which features a different narration at the beginning and Musashi failing to catch Mycella from hitting the ground at the end) as a secret video that can only be watched by beating the game. In reality, just wait at the title screen until it appears.
- In 2023, I announced my playthrough of Pizza Tower, but I initially started it off with a video showing all of the bizarre screen reactions you get from (in my case deliberately) beating the crap out of Peppino too much during a level.
- Archive Panic: My channel as a whole is this, with currently OVER 11,000 VIDEOS UPLOADED across OVER 100 VIDEO GAMES!!! Just check my above list of featured games, and good luck watching absolutely everything in one sitting.
- Individually, my playlist of matches from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has a grand total of 1,236 videos across the game's entire 4-year lifespan. This was the most I've had for any single playlist... until I exceeded this with my playlist of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate matches in less than half of that time. By April 2023, I have achieved over 2,000 uploads of Ultimate matches!
- For non-Smash content, my Dragon Ball Fighter Z has over 600 videos of online matches, with coverage going all the way back to the pre-release beta test. This is followed by my playlist of Skullgirls: 2nd Encore, which has over 370 videos of online matches.
- Art Evolution: The quality of my capture card recorded videos got better once I switched from Dazzle to Elgato, expanding what games I could create videos of in clean HD quality. I can now potentially take this even further with the Elgato 4K Capture Utility software.
- Book Ends: Prior to the inclusion Sora in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I ended up finishing my Classic Mode playlist of the game in almost the exact same way I started it: By using a character named Mario. In other words, regular Mario at the start, and Dr. Mario at the end.
- Boss Rush: I like participating in these when they appear in a Kirby game, usually with a Self-Imposed Challenge to get more out of them.
- Christmas Episode: For Christmas 2021, I used Game Mod tools for Sonic Adventure's Steam port to show off its Christmas DLC content, just two days after I started my publishing my playthrough of the game on its original Japanese 23rd Anniversary.
- Colbert Bump: I occasinally encounter a boost in views and comments from outside forces. Other times, I try to invoke this to hype up certain events:
- Once upon a time, I uploaded a rather mediocre and incomplete playthrough of the original Donkey Kong. This initial playthrough of its Japanese arcade build lacked 50m, and I didn't bother to keep playing the game after beating it just once for this video, where 50m would've been playable. I uploaded the playthrough anyway just to show off the game to people who wanted to know where Mario and Donkey Kong came from, and that was a done deal. Then Pixels happened... Several years later, that playthrough has become my #1 top-viewed video of all time, with over 11.7 million views as of this writing (including the most comments, likes, and dislikes of any video I've ever made). Only a tiny handful of videos following right behind it have only ever managed over 1 to 2 million at most. Even a second, more complete playthrough of the game I attempted years later has quite a long time to reach those same numbers in popularity.
- My Mushroom Hill Zone videos of Sonic 3 & Knuckles got swarmed with comments from viewers of Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), following Dr. Robotnik being stranded on the Mushroom Planet at the end of that movie.
- My playthroughs of Marvel Super Heroes kept getting more popular as more of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films got released. They likely reached a ninth following films such as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame seeing as both of those movies star Thanos as the front-and-center Big Bad, just like Marvel Super Heroes itself does.
- I invoked this with Mike Haggar's playable appearance in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 by playing through the original SNES version of Final Fight as the Mayor of Metro City, himself (before Cody took over for him, that is).
- When Mega Man 11 was close to being released, I attemped to invoke this trope by finally starting playthroughs of Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 to support 11 before playing that game, too.
- Having only previously played the original Streets of Rage at the time, I played through both the second and the third game to invoke this trope to hype up the announcement of the fourth game, and then eventually playthrough that, as well.
- I played through all 5 of the original Super Bomberman games in order to invoke this trope to celebrate the Bomberman franchise's comeback with Super Bomberman R before playing through that game, too.
- The top reason I added Pocky & Rocky to my roster was to invoke this for the release of Pocky & Rocky Reshrined.
- My playthrough of Metroid mOTHER+99 was not only to honor Halloween 2021, but also to countdown to the long-awaited release of Metroid Dread. I finished the uploads of the former game on the day of the latter game's release. I have then decided to just plan a playthrough of Dread, itself, after beating it in a day's worth of time.
- The announcement of Bayonetta 3 has motivated me to play both Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 to promote the threequel. I eventually concluded this with the end of my playthrough of the second game on the third game's release date of October 28th, 2022.
- This also worked on me in reverse. I've been pondering on making Kingdom Hearts playthroughs for a long time. The final push for me to start working on this was Sora's appearance as a Guest Fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- I was planning to record playthroughs of both Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for a while (see Take a Third Option below), but an added push towards making this a reality was the announcement of Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
- I've pushed my Tails and Knuckles gameplay in both Sonic Adventure, and Sonic the Hedgehog Megamix to attempt to promote their appearances in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022).
- Critical Research Failure: One of my Overwatch playlists has montages of almost each and every characters' selectable voice lines in almost every selectable voice language. For Portuguese, I had accidentally used the flag of Portugal instead of the flag of Brazil, as that country's specific Brazillian-Portuguese was the Portuguese used in the game. I had thankfully corrected this by the time I had reached the Brazillian hero Lúcio, but I have yet to fix this for previous videos and would be one of the first things on my mind to do if I ever "rebooted" this playlist (or at least wait until Overwatch 2 to do so).
- Doing It for the Art: Although my YouTube Channel is presently monetized, I make it more about my content rather than myself, and every single game that I've put into it is out of my own passsion for them rather than trying to follow trends, which is why it features a variety of classic, modern, and niche games. I don't like selling out to featuring games I'm not even interested in, though this may be at the cost of gaining a good flow of views and revenue with my uploads (though that does give me an alternate idea to think about now...)
- Doujin Soft: All Fox Eye games I've featured are this, and as such are the most obscure games I've ever featured on the channel, which is a major reason why I've neatly featured them all together on the front of my channel. All of my video content relating to this circle's games are also the only videos in my entire library that I purposely leave un-monetized, per their creator's wishes. I then instead use my playthroughs of these games to attract more fans to the circle. Holdover, in particular, has the distinction of being the first game of this sort that I've featured on my channel, as well as the very first PC-exclusive game to be featured (not including multiplatform titles or ports, such as Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus or Overwatch).
- Dub Text: My Holdover playthrough has customized text unique to only my playthrough of the game. Anyone can do this if they want, but my playthrough was mainly about adding additional text to what was already there, such as expanding the opening and ending text of the game, adding details to its in-game tips and guidelines, and giving Marie more dialogue.
- Easter Egg: I occasionally like to use my video editing skills to mess around and edit my videos to put these in:
- Dragon Ball Fighter Z: Nearly if not all of my videos are tagged with a recreation of the names and phrases spoken from the Once an Episode copyright disclaimer for Dragon Ball Z Abridged (including a mention of Akira Toriyama and "Please support the official release"). Because tags are no longer shown with the videos, you would only know this by dissecting and examining each video’s data.
- Holdover: Sonic Mania's buzzing noise after Studiopolis' Act 2 boss (based on the technical difficulties incident that occurred for that series' 25th Anniversary Party livestream) is used in one of my videos of the former game that contains Tanner’s final message to his daughter Marie before abruptly cutting off. I used this to both add some more weight to that moment of that game, and as Foreshadowing that I would start a Sonic Mania playthrough soon after finishing my playthrough of Holdover.
- Splatoon / Splatoon 2 / Splatoon 3: If a Ranked Match goes into Overtime, I titularly emphasize that further by using SpongeBob's Rage-Breaking Point in "Rock-a-Bye-Bivalve". Although Overwatch also has Overtime for tie-breaking, I didn't repeat it there since I felt it didn't match that game's spirit the same way it matched with Splatoon's.
- Fan Nickname:
- The heroes of Streets of Rage don't have an official team name, so I like to call them the "Bare Knuckle Brawlers" in my playthroughs of the series.
- The very Colour-Coded for Your Convenience nature of all of the main girls the titular Musashi Samurai Legend has to rescue (from Princess Mycella to all of the Elemental Maidens) inspired me to call them his "Rainbow Harem".
- As of Jak II, I sometimes call Jak & Daxter the "Dark Eco Duo", since by that point, they both have had their own respective experiences with Dark Eco. This has continued into my playthrough of Jak 3.
- Fanservice: I have unashamedly swung both ways of this trope.
- Sexual: Skullgirls, Senran Kagura, and anything from Fox Eye are my topmost examples of this trope on my channel in various ways (though in the case of Skullgirls, this effect can wear off depending on what else you may like about that game), and all of them are featured on the front of my channel partially because of this. Fox Eye's BLUE GUARDIAN: Margaret, in particular, is probably the most-lewdest game on my channel due to being a thread's width away from being an H-Game (in certain ways or others that not even a Senran Kagura game would have). I must take care not to break that thread, hmmm...?! I would eventually direct my attention towards featuring what is probably the first Japanese game in history to be recognized for this form of appeal in Athena, and then I later on tackled on a more modernized and more popular example of this with Bayonetta.
- Non-Sexual: I consider any big Crossovers I've featured as this, such as Marvel vs. Capcom, Kingdom Hearts, and Super Smash Bros., or games that have extreme proof of Shown Their Work to their source material, such as Dragon Ball Fighter Z. The latter two of these are featured on the front of my channel.
- Fan Translation:
- How I played through Mother 3 in English (of course!). I also utilized this for the Nintendo Entertainment System version of Final Fantasy III, Super Bomberman 4, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and Pulseman, though the latter is just for its text dialogue; the voice acting is already in Surprisingly Good English!
- I also utilized what I call Fan Retranslation, playing through more Japanese-faithful versions of Dynamite Headdy and Streets of Rage 3 (called Bare Knuckle III in Japan) in English, thus removing any cases of Bowdlerise or Dub Name Change they may have had, though I still played the American version of Streets of Rage 3 alongside its Japanese counterpart for the sake of making comparisons between the two.
- My playthrough of Phantasy Star I is of two fan translations stacked on each other. The first one by SMS Power!, and a second addemdum patch by FlamePurge.
- Game Mod: I like to show these off from time-to-time, as well, primarly ones made from hacking Sega Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games. I've also taken interest in mods for Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2.
- Halloween Episode: Not counting how I've used Splatoon and Overwatch events to celebrate this occasion, some of my videos were purposely-timed in respect to this holiday. Sometimes, if I want to spread this throughout October, it will usually involve some material from the Castlevania franchise, which also has a closeby anniversary date to October in September 26th (which is also coincidentally the day I first created my YouTube account to begin with):
- Near the end of October 2012, I started uploading a playthrough of Monster Party. I uploaded my last video of it on Halloween Day.
- On Halloween 2015, I randomly uploaded a couple videos of the very first Sonic the Hedgehog, despite me already having played through that game (but before I made a true full second playthrough to honor the debut trailer of Sonic Mania). These separate videos were actually of the Sonic.exe-based An Ordinary Sonic 1 ROM Hack.
- On Halloween 2016, I uploaded a playthrough of Squigly's fully-voiced Story Mode from Skullgirls.
- Halloween 2018 was a double focus; a comeback of Skullgirls from 2016, alongside a focus on Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus. For the latter, I uploaded a video of Mirai's Shinobi Girl's Heart story that ended with her and Murakumo dressing up as their favorite Sengoku Super Wars characters. For the former, I uploaded a video of me beating Marie 300%, though I admit that I cheesed this by just running her health down while stalling my own for a Time Out.
- In October 2019, I did a triple focus on uploading playthroughs of Castlevania: Dracula X, Decap Attack, and Vectorman 2 throughout October. I managed to finish all of them up before the end of that year's Halloween.
- In October 2020, I revived my focus on Castlevania: Bloodlines by playing as both John and Eric in Expert Mode, having previously played the game years ago on Normal Mode. For brand new content, I also played through a fully-decked out Fan Translation (or Re-translation, in this case) of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. I finished all three of these Castlevania playthroughs before the end of Halloween.
- All throughout October 2021, I started a project that would involve playthroughs of five games: Both versions of Sonic Spinball together, Castlevania: The Adventure followed by Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, and the mOTHER+99 hybrid Game Mod of the original Metroid. I made all of these playthrough to honor Halloween of that year, though the Metroid playthrough was also made to honor and countdown to the release of Metroid Dread.
- For October 2022, I took Castlevania-pandering to even higher levels, as I posted playthroughs of four games from that franchise, Castlevania Legends, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, Castlevania 64, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, thoughout the entirety of the month. I finished them all right before the end of Halloween 2022.
- It Will Never Catch On:
- It took me serious balls for me to include more Fanservice-laden content on my channel, as I wanted to challenge myself on what kind of lewd content I'd be willing to feature. While this wasn't an issue for me when including a couple of Skullgirls playlists (since I was mostly in it for the gameplay, anyway), my content relating to Senran Kagura and especially Fox Eye were truer testaments for myself in this regard, as I was prepared to face harsh criticism and Snark Bait for including such fetishy material on my channel (and one of the reasons I finally started a Sonic Mania playthrough not too long afterwards was to have it help curb the idea that I was going to rework my channel into taking a full-fledged Hotter and Sexier route). Mercifully, all of it has been well-received for the most part, with me even gaining followers just for this content.
- in particular, as of this writing, my playlists for Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus and BLUE GUARDIAN: Margaret, that I consider the Top 2 lewdest games on my channel, so far, have both reached over 30,000 views, which is close to the range of some of my more notable Sonic and Crash playlists. As of June 10th, 2023, Part 4 of my Margaret playthrough alone has amasssed over 500,000 views, the highest views of any of my Fox Eye content by a huge margin (more than all of my other videos of that developer's games combined) and brings it within the Top 20 of my entire channel's most-popular videos (out of over 11 thousand videos). I am utterly astonished by this...
- I wasn't expecting my playthrough of Musashi Samurai Legend to be much more popular (100,000+ playlist views) than my playthrough of Brave Fencer Musashi (10,000+ playlist views). I was actually thinking the opposite would happen. See Take a Third Option below for more details.
- Just for Pun:
- Several of the descriptions of my Streets of Rage 2 videos reference the titles of the game's music that can be heard in each video. Some of them are more blatant than others. This gets repeated in my Streets of Rage 4 playthrough.
- Most of my Metroid Dread videos that focus on me defeating one of The Dreaded E.M.M.I. robots has a title that contains a pun based on each weapon they give Samus after they're defeated.
- Mascot with Attitude: Sonic the Hedgehog is my very first and top favorite video game franchise, with a very strong presence and influence on my channel's direction (as of this writing, I have created 30+ playlists of Sonic content), and a prominently featured franchise on the front of my channel. It also seems to be among the most popular video game franchises I've featured on my channel with how often it has attracted dedicated fans. I also prominently feature Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon, and even gave Konami's Sonic-inspired Rocket Knight Adventures some good attention through its Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System titles.
- Meaningful Release Date: Some of my content has been published just for the sake of paying dues to specific or important dates regarding the games associated with them:
- A more personal one: I initiated my playthrough of Holdover on May 15, 2018, which is extremely close to three years after I first encountered info on this game on This Very Wiki via its Oxygen Meter page, which commenced my discovery, support, and Guilty Pleasures towards Fox Eye as a whole.
- After a nearly one year-long delay, I ended up uploading my playthrough of the original Sonic Mania on June 23, 2018, the 27th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog (which I decided to very carefully time to follow up my abovementioned Holdover playthrough with).
- The Final Boss of my playthrough of Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion was posted as Part 88 on October 18th, 2018. 8 is the Arc Number of that entire campaign, and October was originally the 8th month of the year instead of August.
- I ran through a playthrough of Kirby: Squeak Squad during 2020, because that was the Year of the Rat. Two years later into 2022, I went through the game's Boss Endurance using the Triple Star ability to finish my playlist of the game on March 25, 2022, which was also the release date of Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
- I completed the main part of my playthrough of Pac-Man World on May 22, 2020, the 40th anniversary of the original Pac-Man. He's been around for a very long time, and is currently the oldest video game franchise I have ever covered on YouTube.
- I had repeated this three years later at the very end of May 22, 2023, the 43th anniversary of the original Pac-Man, by finishing my playthrough of Pac-Man World Re-PAC.
- I completed my first playthrough of Shinobi (2002) on December 5, 2020, apparently 18 years after the game's Japanese release date (the American release date was suprisingly earlier, at November 10, 2002).
- On Match 29th 2021, I finished my entire playlist of the original Fatal Fury: King of Fighters by publishing a video of Joe Higashi defeating Geese Howard. Match 29th is also the date of Joe's birthday.
- I carefully finished my playthrough of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles: The Challenges Game Mod on June 23rd, 2021, the 30th Anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. As an extra measure, I also chose the date to commence my playthrough of Sonic Triple Trouble.
- I chose August 2nd, 2021 to be the date where I started uploading my Survival Mode runs of Streets of Rage 4 Mr. X Nightmare DLC, as that is the date of that franchise's own 30th Anniversary.
- I started publishing my playthrough of the very first Kingdom Hearts game on November 22th, 2021, a day within the week that's home to a few Disney-related milestones for movies whose content would appear in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, such as Toy Story (26th), Toy Story 2 (22nd), Aladdin (29th) and Beauty and the Beast (30th). This publish was also 4 days after the 93rd Anniversary of Steamboat Willie.
- Later on, I went through an entire sequence of publishing videos focused on Hollow Bastion in a row on March 28, 2022, the 20th Anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, itself.
- I started my playthrough of Sonic Adventure on December 23rd, 2021, the 23rd Anniversary of the game's original Japanese release and overall.
- I finished my playthrough of Golden Axe II just a few hours before its own 30th Anniversary of December 26th, 2021.
- I started my playthroughs of Xenoblade Chronicles 1 (Definitive Edition) and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on April 6th, 2022. I chose this day to acknowledge and honor the 10th Anniversary of the first game's original North American release on the Wii, and as such the most important date of Operation Rainfall's influence on making this release possible at all.
- I then ended the main campaigns of both games on December 1st, 2022, the worldwide 5th Anniversary of the second game.
- I started my playthrough of The World Ends with You: Final Remix on April 22nd, 2022, the 14th US Anniversary of the original Nintendo DS version's release, and also one day after Neku's birthday of April 21st (and also two days after Fret's birthday of April 20th).
- I published the boss fight against Sho Minamimoto on July 27th, 2022, the 15th Anniversary of the entire TWEWY franchise and the 1st Anniversary of NEO: TWEWY.
- I started my playthrough of Kirby's Dream Land 2 on May 26th, 2022, exactly one month after the 30th Anniversary of not only its prequel, but the entire Kirby franchise overall.
- I completed my playthrough of Super Mario 64 on June 23rd, 2022, the 26th Anniversary of the game's original release.
- Right after the above, I celebrated the Sonic the Hedgehog 31st Anniversary of the same date by publishing three additional Sonic playthroughs to my channel: Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Advance, and Sonic Classic Heroes.
- I finished my main playthrough of Bayonetta 2 on October 28th, 2022, the release date of Bayonetta 3.
- I finally featured Ratchet & Clank on my channel starting with its very first game, on November 4th, 2022, the 20th Anniversary of that franchise.
- I continued my coverage of Jak and Daxter by starting a playthrough of Jak 3 on November 9th, 2022, the game's 18th Anniversary.
- I started playthroughs of the Sega Genesis version and Super Nintendo version of Disney's Aladdin on November 11th, 2022, the 29th Anniversary of the Genesis game's release, and the 30th Anniversary of the film, itself.
- I debuted my playthrough of Tails Skypatrol in November 2022 on the 21st and finished it on the 24th, which was when I also later on debuted my playthrough of Tails Adventure as a follow up. These two dates are the 30th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog 2's respective Japanese and worldwide releases, and ultimately the (fully realized) 30th Anniversary of Tails' debut as an Iconic Sequel Character in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
- I started publishing playthroughs of Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge and Mega Man: The Wily Wars, as well as a second, complete playthrough of Mega Man X2 on December 17th, 2022, the 35th Anniversary of the Mega Man (Classic) series and of the Mega Man franchise overall. The date was also the 29th Anniversary of the Mega Man X Sequel Series, and specifically one day after the 28th Anniversary of X2's release.
- I eventually wrapped up my Wily Wars playthrough on May 23rd, 2023 to honor that date's release of the game's Fan Sequel/Fan Remake, Mega Man: The Sequel Wars.
- I made a grand debut of the Phantasy Star franchise on my channel by publishing a playthrough of a double-patched 2022 English Fan Re-Translation of the original game on December 20th, 2022, the 35th Anniversary of that franchise, making it younger than Mega Man and Final Fantasy by only two and three days, respectively. I also wanted to do this to pay tribute to one of the game's lead designers, the late Rieko Kodama. I finished this playthrough on March 8th, 2023, which is International Women's Day, for further respects to Kodama, Alis, and the sizable amount of other women at Sega that worked on this game.
- I premired my playthrough of Celeste on January 25th, 2023, the game's grand 5th Anniversary. I've seen that said anniversary included, among other things, brand physical and premium releases of the game, and a super-packed community Game Mod called Strawberry Jam.
- I premired together the inaugural games of both the Kunio-kun and Double Dragon franchises on April 22nd 2023 to celebrate the latter's 36th Anniversary and its tight relationship with the former.
- On April 25th, 2023, I premiered by playthroughs of Xenoblade Chronicles 1's Future Connected and Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Torna ~ The Golden Country to celebrate the release of Xenoblade Chronicles 3's own extra story: Future Redeemed.
- Right after ending my playthroughs of both Future Connected and Torna on the previous day, I started publishing my playthrough of the main game of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 itself on July 29th, 2023, the game's very 1st Anniversary.
- On June 23rd, 2023, it was the 32nd Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog. So I started playthroughs of Sonic Battle and Sonic Triple Trouble 16-Bit right after completing my playthroughs of Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Heroes. I also made a very late announcement that will be tackling for S-Ranks in all of the Action Chain Challenges, and then later all of the the Cyberspace levels of Sonic Frontiers following its Update 2 patch. However, I didn't give myself time to actually start on this until exact one month later on July 23rd, 2023.
- Milestone Celebration: I have put emphasis on every hundredth video of the first one thousand I uploaded and published, usually by focusing on a given game's climax and/or Signature Scene:
- My 100th video was for Mega Man X2, focusing specifically on the first fight between X and Zero (and as such, leading to the game's bad ending).
- My 200th video was for SNES version of Super Mario Bros., focusing on Mario beating the real Bowser once and for all, and saving Princess Peach for the very first of many, many times.
- My 300th video was for Super Smash Bros. Melee, focusing on finishing off my initial playthroughs of that game's Adventure Mode by using Bowser. This means that I end up having him fight Giga Bowser at the very end, just like I've done with everyone else prior.
- My 400th video was for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, focusing on finishing off my first playthrough of the entire game by beating it as Hyper Sonic in Doomsday Zone.
- My 500th video was for the original NES Ninja Gaiden, completing the entirety of the final act, which is considered the most brutal levels of an already notoriously-difficulty game (though I do admit that I likely wouldn't be able to pull this off at all without save states; that's how hard this game can be). This video was also released on Christmas 2011.
- My 600th video was for the original The Legend Of Zelda, focusing on getting Link through the Death Mountain dungeon, defeating Ganon, and saving Princess Zelda in what would be the first shown victory of many past and future stories.
- My 700th video was for Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2, focusing on the final stage of the game where Sparkster channels his inner Super Sonic, and defeats the final boss as Gold Sparkster.
- My 800th video was for the original Kid Icarus, focusing on getting the Golden Ending of the game and defeating Medusa with the Three Sacred Treasures. Thus, Pit saves Palutena, and all of Skyworld would be at peace until twenty-five years later...
- My 900th video was for Mega Man 2, focusing on the start of Mega Man's march through Wily's second castle, all to what is considered the most famous (and infamous) song in the entire Mega Man franchise.
- My 1000th video, and the final one I gave this kind of focus to, was for the Subspace Emissary mode of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, focusing on defeating Tabuu with Sonic, and Sonic only, following his Big Damn Heroes moment, which helped all of the rest of the Nintendo fighters (and Snake) to save the World of Trophies once and for all.
- Names The Same: These are just some of the ones I've noticed the most trying to keep track of the Loads And Loads Of Characters I've featured on my channel:
- My channel has featured two Nintendo-owned characters named Roy. Since both of these Roys can be in a match of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U or Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, I intentionally put no effort into differenating the Young Lion and Pheraen Prince from Elibe from the brute-faced, pink-colored, sunglasses-wearing Koopaling in the titles of my matches unless they are directly pitted against each other.
- I have featured three different girls named Marie, and all of them somehow seem to be associated with... death? One is handicapped and is prone to dying in her game (especially by drowning), one is a powerful being that can control the undead, and one is just simply an entertaining Deadpan Snarker (okay, so she sometimes talks like she wishes she was dead).
- I have featured two righteous Japanese fighters named Ryu: the original World Warror of Ansatsuken, and Heir to the Dragon Ninja Clan.
- Musashi? Are you talking about a Brave Fencer, a Samurai Legend, or a Shinobi? They seem to all love cool swords, too.
- Speaking of ninjas and shinobi, I have shown off three of them named Hanzo. Let me know if you wanna talk about either Genji's older brother, Asuka's grandfather, or those speedy mooks Axel's team has to deal with.
- Athena can refer to a different trio of girls. A purple-haired warrior princess/goddess, a pink- or purple-haired, psychic J-Pop idol and descendant of the aforementioned warrior princess/goddess, or the blonde-haired daughter of Zeus that got kidnapped by Neff. Before all of these girls made appearances on my channel, this name was first featured as the name of the AI system and game announcer of Overwatch.
- I have featured two Japanese girls named Shiki. One of them actually has a reaper's scythe for a weapon compared to the other one that often must fight a more creative and symbolic definition of "Reapers".
- New Year Has Come:
- After an exhausting run of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time since its release of October 2, 2020, I finally finished my playthrough of the game right at the start of January 1st, 2022.
- I finished publishing my Sonic Advance 2 run as Cream the Rabbit on January 1st, 2023, the start of the Year of the Rabbit.
- No Problem with Licensed Games: Among the series I've put on the channel are ones based on non-video game franchises, such as Dragon Ball and Marvel Comics, and are, for the most part, consisdered fantastic games in their own right. It's because of this that I feature my playlist of Dragon Ball Fighter Z on the front of my channel.
- Platform Game: My favorite Video Game Genre. A significant majority of my featured games come from this genre, including Mr. Video Game, himself, as well as his biggest metafictional rival of the Fourth Generation Console Wars. This also includes hybrid genres, such as Super Smash Bros. being a Platform Fighter. As of this writing, I have covered over 120 platformers of various styles. That sure is a lot of jumpin'!
- Retraux: I occasionally use the music software FL-Studio to create and remix songs into the same SMPS-based soundfont that's used in most of the Sega Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog titles, and reception for them all was generally positive. This includes...
- An attempt to make a Genesis remix of "Soramimi Cake", the opening theme of the Azumanga Daioh anime. Link.
- A new extended mix of Sonic 3's title screen music with new instrumentations. Link.
- A fused remix of both Act themes of Sonic 3's Launch Base Zone and the 2-Player theme of Sonic 2's Mystic Cave Zone. Act 1 Only. Act 2 Only. Full Version.
- An extended remix of a possibly Super Sonic-esque song that got Dummied Out from Sonic 3 during its development (based on a November 1993 prototype that was found and ROM-dumped in November 2019). Link.
- A remix of a "Club Scene" music theme that was apparently meant for Sonic 2, including a brand new extended section before it loops. Link.
- Rule of Cool: The reason my Gunstar Heroes playthrough is a Double Play. Twice the Stuff Blowing Up!
- Self-Imposed Challenge: You can mostly see this whenever I focus on a Boss Rush in a Kirby game:
- Kirby & the Amazing Mirror: Beat Boss Endurance with each and every ability (including Normal, and, through Codebreaker codes, U.F.O. and Master).
- Kirby & the Amazing Mirror: Beat Boss Endurance with as many abilities as I can. Some make it impossible either out of utility or out of too much harm. So they had to be ignored.
- Kirby Super Star Ultra: Beat Helper to Hero with every Helper character. Beat The TRUE Arena with every ability (including Normal).
- Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Complete every playthrough with the Cap of 99 lives (technically, the number of lives can go higher than that, but this resets to 99 each time a new zone is reached, or when the game is reset). This also applies to Sonic 3: D. A. Garden Edition.
- Super Smash Bros. Melee: Beat Adventure Mode, including Giga Bowser, with the entire roster. This means beating the mode on Hard or higher.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Use the entire roster to beat Boss Battles Mode on Intense.
- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: Beat Classic Mode with every character on Intensity 9.0.
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Complete Classic Mode on Intensity 9.9 with everyone. Yes, that means 83 playthroughs of Classic Mode, which I eventually accomplished upon the release of the game's final fighter: Sora.
- Show, Don't Tell: Even with my improved experience with having a YouTube channel since signing up for an account back in 2009, I prefer to strictly focus on the gameplay of my videos, rather than including commentary or utilizing a facecam to go with them like most popular content creators have done since 2013 at large. Any explanations I provide are either in the video descriptions, or any text I put in video guides. Although this is an honest presentation for myself, I feel it could be part of why my channel tends to be seen as an Acclaimed Flop.
- Shut Up, Hannibal!: One of the most awesome and funniest moments I pulled off in one of my last videos of Star Fox 64 is lethally invoking this on Andrew and making him feel like a true Butt-Monkey.
Andrew: We'll make sure you never reach An- *gets blasted to pieces* Ahhhh!!!!Fox: We'll just see about that, Star Wolf!
- Take a Third Option:
- How I handled creating playthroughs of the Musashiden games. It was either complete a Brave Fencer Musashi playlist first, then complete a Musashi Samurai Legend playlist, or vice-versa. While the former is considered the better game, I was more eager to make a playlist for the latter, feeling it would be easier to do. Ultimately, I decided to work on both, back-to-back, to make sure that the former's understated Cult Classic following, and the latter's much more underground fans could all be pleased at once without having to wait for me to start on their respective games later. In a truly ironic twist of fate, however, my Samurai Legend playthrough ended up being much more popular than my Brave Fencer playthrough (with over 100,000 playlist views as of this writing, making Samurai Legend among my highest-viewed playlists ever), which truly shows that the game does indeed have a decent group of dedicated fans despite being less-favored. I have currently set this two-game series as my top-featured Eastern RPG series on the channel (even over the likes of my Final Fantasy, Mother, and even my Kingdom Hearts content, let alone any content of what is likely the Musashi games' biggest inspiration).
- I have eventually planned this Musashi scheme to my playthroughs of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. One of the not-so mundane reasons is how both games' stories occur at the exact same time, compared to both Musashi games not having a similar connection to each other. So how I'd pace my videos for both Xenoblade games from start to finish would be my way to acknowledge and honor that detail, compared to applying this to both Musashi games all just for the sake of tandem appeal and attention. Likewise, the appearance of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and its true connection with its prequels has further spurred me to plan said prequels like this.
- Temporary Online Content: I have covered as much of Splatoon's Splatfests and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled's Grand Prix events as I could. Check them out if you wanna know how exciting it was to follow games like this passionately for content that only lasted for a certain amount of time (and unlike Overwatch's themed events, doesn't repeat... for the most part).
- Valentine's Day Episode: I finished my playthrough of Altered Beast on Valentine's Day 2021, which feels appropriate, considering that the end of the game has your centurion defeat Neff and rescue Athena, and they both presumably fall in love with each other.
Still in progress... Stay tuned!
