Basarin would describe himself as a casual geek, as he is not terribly educated on most tropes or examples of them. Nevertheless, he fills in bits and pieces where he can and whenever it may be appropriate.
Though he is currently a graduate student in international studies, he has (to his peers in his current area, anyways) odd tastes. He has no problem mixing songs from JAM Project and Mozart into the same playlist, is a lover of history (canon and alternate), and loves Turn-Based Strategy games. He is currently stuck in a land where people of the TV Tropes variety simply do not exist, and is slowly growing insane for it.
