Amateur translator, voracious reader and all-around nerdnote . Also an infrequent contributor in GameFAQs (mostly saves / guides) and Fight A Base (mostly anime and Asian DOS / arcade games).
Don't mind the nickname, I wanted an exotic-sounding throwaway account and I was playing Power Instinct Legends at the time. Feel free to correct any wrong stuff I write.
Pages of no use I've created:
- The almost obsolete Bōsōzoku culture and its influence on Japanese media.
- Cho Aniki's wacky cast.
- The Hiryū no Ken video game series.
- The Hissatsu TV jidaigeki series and its influence on many popular anime and games (for example, Hell Girl or Hissatsu Ura-Kagyou).
- Ikki Kajiwara and his importance on manga history, especially in the spokon and martial arts genres.
- The character pages of Kenka Banchō 1 and 2, 3 and Bros., and 4 and 5 (Note: Work in progress, especially the latter two).
- The historical drama Yainsidae and its massive popularity among South Korean audiences and internet memes.
- The multicultural wrestling video game Royal Pro Wrestling and its focus on Theatrics of Pain.
Useless things I've written about:
- Antonio Inoki's popular Ishu Kakutōgi Sen combat series and his status as an Invincible Hero in Japan.
- The surprising number of Beat 'em Up video games based on Korean gangster Kim Du-Han.
- Bug Catching and Mon video games (especially obscure ones), and the strong link between the two concepts.
- Captain Harlock: Harlock's origins as a constant Reused Character Design, as well as the use of Senjō manga for the Arcadia of my Youth film.
- Chinese Vampire: Mr. Vampire's influence in the genre, and the many video game homages to it and Hello Dracula.
- Def Jam: Fight for NY, especially the differences in the Fight For NY: The Takeover port.
- The rivalry between Capcom and SNK's early fighting games, since both shared origins... And, of all things, the surprising resemblance between Ryu and Andy Bogard.
- The early '70s Toku ratings war between various producers during the Henshin Hero craze.
- The Fad Super effect's influence on Tokusatsu history (and a bunch of anime examples).
- Fighter's History: The manga and wrestling-based Shout-Out entries.
- Fighters Destiny, and Anchor Inc.'s spiritual sequels Toy Fighter, Force Five and Jingi Storm (...After all, I made guides to them somewhere else!).
- Final Fight's unlikely references to Streets of Fire, Les Misérables, Breakfast at Tiffany's, or its enforced use of the Gratuitous Ninja trope.
- How the Fu'un Series is the antithesis of The King of Fighters.
- Gekiga manga authors.
- Genji's inspirations on various Asian religions and myths.
- Discrediting some lies in the Live-Action TV sectionnote .
- Gungriffon: In-depth details about the game's Mecha models / functions, and the dense geopolitical backstory described in various manuals.
- Igaguri-kun's historical importance as one of the Trope Makers of the martial arts manga.
- Jidaigeki: Minor video games I may someday write about indepth, like Yoshitsune Eiyuuden or Kengo and its many sequels.
- Jungle King Tar-Chan: Corrected Anabebe's name, which was previously misspelled as "Alibaba" (probably taken from the incorrect english sub).
- Kamen Rider Agito's probably coincidental similarities to Kikaider, Robot Detective and Inazuman.
- The Kenka Banchō video game series (a major page overhaul).
- Gachitora!'s Soul Nude Battle system.
- How The King of Fighters probably absorbed the Art of Fighting series (YMMV).
- The name changes in The Last Soldier, the Korean Dub Name Change of The Last Blade, as well as their cultural references.
- The use of the Weapon for Intimidation mechanic in the video game The Masterplan.
- Moveset Clone characters in the Dynasty Warriors, Power Instinct and Samurai Shodown series.
- Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water's Shout-Outs, specifically the Nautilus designs and Ultraman homages.
- Obsolete: The model recycling between various Exoframes, as well as its crossovers with Armored Trooper VOTOMS.
- Ring ni Kakero: The manga's influence on basic shonen tropes like Serial Escalation or National Stereotypes, as well as the many, many similarities of Ring ni Kakero 2 to its prequel... And its decent SNES video game.
- Sylvester Stallone's original plans for a Rocky trilogy.
- Rocky III: Wrestling matches against boxers that influenced the Rocky-Thunderlips fight.
- Samurai Shodown's character page (around 5-10% of the stuff), especially shout-outs and weapon translations. I've also written about the Moveset Clone characters.
- Space Battleship Yamato: The races' parallels to real-world nations, and its reasonably good video games.
- Some of the many shout-outs in fighting games as Street Fighter and The King of Fighters (roughly 10% / 15%).
- Subcultures in Japan, like the yankii, bankara, tsuppari, gyaru-oh, ora ora, manji kei, bōsōzoku, hashiriya ... And the dekotora.
- Suruga-Jō Gozen Jiai and Bukon Emaki, the two source novels to Shigurui.
- Tech Romancer: Half of the video game's Shout-Outs to classic Mecha anime and Toku shows.
- The martial artists who did motion capture in the Tekken series (listed under the Cast the Expert trope).
- Tokyo Revengers: The main character's gang's loose historical similarities to the Black Emperor and Kantō Rengō gangs.
- Tomorrow's Joe: The real life history behind Harimau's alias.
- Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Its use in early Fighting Games. Probably one of the most useless and disguisting entries I've done but, hey, it's information after all.
- World Heroes: Most of the game's Captain Ersatz / Shout-Out entries, as well as a description of the unused concept art characters seen in ADK World.
- Yuuyami Doori Tankentai: Major overhaul on the page (roughly 50%), detailing some of the story and mechanics beyond the first chapter.
- Licensed anime / tokusatsu games, both good and bad. Lots of them.
- The odd scale difference between the Mecha video games Armored Warriors and Cyberbots.
Meaningless stuff to come:
- A page on the wholesome Boku no Natsuyasumi video game series.
- Takayuki Yamaguchi (of Apocalypse Zero fame)'s untranslated works, such as Exoskull Zero and Efu no Shichinin.
- Finishing the Kenka Banchō Character pages.
